3 Reasons Living Normal Is So Hard

Many people say this. “I have no great ambitions. I just want to live a normal life.” At first glance, it sounds like a simple dream, but it is absolutely not. Because living a normal life is never easy. Why?

There is no ordinary reality

Ordinary is a very vague concept. Since there is no specific target point, there is no substance anywhere. In the end, living a normal life is just a story without substance. And mediocrity is a relative concept. It means that you want to live a comfortable life compared to others. In other words, if the surroundings change, you must also change. This is why living a normal life is harder than you think.

Fallacy of concept

The words that I want to live a normal life mean that I want to be in the middle economically. However, the distribution of wealth follows a power distribution, unlike the distribution we usually think of. In other words, the top 20% own 80% of the wealth. In a normal distribution, if the average income is 3 million won, the median is also 3 million won. However, in the power distribution, if the average income is 3 million won, the median of the person in the middle actually does not even come close to 3 million won. So, in order to enter the category of mediocrity that we generally recognize, we have to earn more money than we thought.

Effort is essential

Living an ordinary life does not mean living an easy life. But it doesn’t mean that I will live hard. If you dare to live an easy life and a hard life at the two extremes, an ordinary life is close to an easy life. Why? When talking about the quality of life, you cannot leave out the economic part. Let’s assume that some people got into a large company with 70% of their efforts, and others did not get into a large company with 69% of their efforts. If so, will a person who has worked as hard as 69% live a life of receiving 1% less economically than a person who passed? no. There is a high probability of living a life that earns much less.

There is a threshold for effort. No matter how hard you work, if you can’t get over it, it’s useless. You want to try moderately, but being moderate is a pretty dangerous concept. You must make enough effort to cross the critical point. Life is difficult because most of the time it is not clear where this critical point is. So, the only way is to just work hard. Life is like that.
